Congratulations to Father James Alaniz OSF and Father Thomas Gierke OSF ordained to the sacred Priesthood on Sunday, October 7th by His Grace Metropolitan Jerome OSJV, at the Church of the Atonement, Chicago.
Family, friends and parishioners came from near and far to witness the ordination and receive the First Blessings of the new priests. The Traditional Latin Rite liturgy was beautifully supported by the singing of the schola under the direction of the renowned church musician Mr Kevin Allen ably assisted by resident organist, Mr Charles Sega. The Archbishop was assisted by Monsignor Kelly and a team of servers who, though unfamiliar with the liturgy served it ably.
As Franciscans and thus professed religious, the Friars were ordained by the Servant Superior of the Congregation of the Divine Charity, the autonomous jurisdiction for religious life in the Communion. The Friars will continue to reside at The Friary of St Felix and minister in the Diocese of Chicago now at the invitation of Bishop Nioclas Kelly OSF, also a Franciscan who was consecrated Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese the following Sunday. The Friars will assist in the restoration of the Diocese of Chicago, the first and oldest Old Roman Catholic diocese in America after a two year interregnum sede vacante.
