Spiritual joy!

Europe: June 12th – 14th Metropolitan Jerome joined pilgrims and retreatants of the Anglican Catholic Church Diocese of the United Kingdom at the Shrine of Our Lady’s Glorious Assumption and St Simon Stock at Aylesford Priory last week. His Grace was invited by Bishop Damien Mead as a guest speaker to deliver a conference on “worshipping in spirit and in truth” (cf John 4:24). His Grace delivered his conference in the recently dedicated church of St Augustine, Painter’s Forestall where he had attended the Patronal Festival last month. In his talk, Metropolitan Jerome reflected on the meaning of worship, noting that worship is related to the primary reason for our existence and spirit to our nature as created beings made in the “imago Dei”, truth being predicated on Our Lord Himself and our response to Him.

The welcome and hospitality at The Friary from the Carmelite community was most congenial. Welsh members of the group and Metropolitan Jerome were particularly delighted to visit the grave of Father John Fitzgerald O.Carm (memory eternal), a former Philosophy tutor at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Catholic Chaplain and translator of the Roman Missal into Welsh. The Carmelites have pastored the parish and Catholic Chaplaincy at Aberystwyth for many years. The pilgrims were wonderfully accomodated in the St Joseph’s Chapel for their communal and private worship and comfortable accomodation in the Friary buildings.
